Diecast Models #1

(Diecast models)

If you can't afford to buy a real one, try these models first although it's nothing compared to the real thing ofcouse. The last year for a promo of the Riviera was 1969. none were made after that so there is no Buick dealer promo for the 1971 - 1973 Riviera.

Here is what I know about Riviera models:
Revell makes some 1971 lowriders in 1/64 scale for about $4.
They are srewed together and can be taken apart and repainted easily. The decals can be removed with nail polish remover without removing the paint. I switch heels with Johnny Lightning cars and get some nice scale Rivs.

A company from England, Western Models, makes 1/43 scale 1972 Rivs in a few colors They are nice and cost about $115 each. They are completely assembled and painted.

Lindberg used to make simple snap together 1/32 plastic kits of the 1972 Riv. I've been looking for one for years at toy shows and have never seen one, so good luck finding one.

Testors/Jimmy Flintstone makes a very customized 1/25 model of a 71 Riv. I think it only comes as a one piece body without the interior. I don't know the cost, but it should be reasonable.

All-American Models makes a resin 1/25 71 Riv. It is comparable to a regular model kit and costs about $70.
(NOTE: AAM Resin is out of business since summer 2000 so the model is not available anymore)

I hope this info helps everyone out.

 Buick Riviera model

There seems to be another model by TKM. a 1/25 scale 72 model, not as much detailed as the AAM but thats a 71. A picture from an unbuild 72 TKM is shown below. (from an ebay auction). Further info will be available soon as we have trached the company that builds these. Some adjustments have to be made before we can publish it. Price will be about $38.

"In 1971, Buick produced one of the most controversial cars it has offered in modern times; a restyled Riviera with a rear end that swept down to a point, or "nostril", as one disigner put it."
